4 Powerful Quotes from Children’s Cancer Survivors

Today there are approximately 375,000 adult survivors of children’s cancer in the United States. That equates to 1 in 530 adults between the ages of 20-39. These survivors had to endure months – even years – of treatment, as well as countless visits to the hospital. It was a difficult period of time for them and their families, and something that will stay with them forever.

While the period of going in and out of treatment may be in the past, children who survive cancer have to deal with the reality that it can come back in the future. Not only that, but they are more likely to suffer late effects, like hearing loss, heart failure, chronic pain, thyroid problems and even secondary cancers.

Late effects, coupled with feelings of anxiousness and the fear of getting used to a new routine, are all things that children’s cancer survivors face. Although it’s a difficult journey, it’s one that gives the survivors a new outlook on life.
