Friends Paul “Mo” Moline and Jim Round created the MJ Golf Event in Fort Worth, Texas to give back to their community and support children and families battling cancer. They were moved to create the event after experiencing the helplessness and devastation the disease created in their own lives.
“Both of our families have had to deal with the suffering and loss cancer creates,” said Mo. “One day back in 2000, Jim and I decided it was time to turn the frustration and anger into action to help find a cure. Jim and I do this for all those battling cancer or who have lost the battle – and in particular, all the children who should never suffer from this horrible disease.”
The MJ Golf Event has grown significantly since its launch in 2000. During its first year, the event had around 100 attendees and raised about $30,000. This year, the MJ Golf Classic will be celebrating its fifteenth anniversary and is expected have 2,000 plus attendees and raise more than $400,000. Event activities have also expanded and now include a driving experience at the Texas Motor Speedway, auctions and live concerts, in addition to a golf tournament. The event will conclude with the Dallas/Fort Worth CureSearch Walk. The MJ Event has raised more than $5M to help find cures for cancer. In a terrible turn of circumstances, in 2013 Jim and Mo were both diagnosed with cancer within six days of each other. Their personal battles with cancer only strengthened their commitment to find cures for cancer and continue with the MJ Golf Event. Today, they are in remission and doing well.
Mo and Jim will be honored with the TIA 3PL Samaritan Award in recognition of their work to find cures for children’s cancer at the TIA 2015 Capital Ideas Conference and Exhibition on April 15-18 in Orlando, FL.
“Jim and I are both humbled by the award. It is far more an award for all those who have supported the MJ Events over the fifteen years than any part of what we have accomplished so far,” said Mo.
