Yesterday I had the pleasure of participating in Vice President Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot Summit in Washington DC. The summit brought together thought leaders from various fields of cancer research, technology, oncology, and patient advocacy.

Included in attendance were CureSearch’s Scientific Advisory Council Chair, Dr. Richard O’Reilly (Memorial Sloan Kettering) and CureSearch’s Industry Advisory Council Chair, Dr. Raphael Rousseau (Genentech), who provided key background information to frame the afternoon breakout session on advancing pediatric cancer treatments.

I enjoyed sharing our efforts to circumvent the ‘Valley of Death’ through our Catapult Initiative. Our contributions regarding venture philanthropy and innovative funding for pediatric advances were critical to the conversation.

One highlight was seeing Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institute of Health, who joined the session on pediatrics and updated the group on current NIH efforts in pediatric oncology.

Overall, I thought the Moonshot Summit was a unique and powerful opportunity to connect with other key advocates who support our efforts to work with industry and venture donor/investors to get new, less toxic treatments to childhood cancer patients.
