In 2005, Nick Currey lost his life to Ewing sarcoma, a cancer of the bone (and at times, soft tissue). He was only 19 years old. His parents, Nancy and Ralph Currey, established the Nick Currey Fund in his memory to help fund new and improved therapies for Ewing sarcoma so no other young person’s life would be cut short.
In 2013, the Currey family decided this fund would be the leading supporter of an innovative research project led by Acceleration Initiative grantee, Dr. Mary Beckerle, at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The major goal of Dr. Beckerle’s project was to develop a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of Ewing sarcoma.
Today, thanks to over $361,722 donated from the Nick Currey Fund, other generous donations, and a push from CureSearch for patient outcomes on the front end, Dr. Beckerle and her associates are reaching their goal.
