The Nick Currey Fund at CureSearch Nearing $1M Mark

Nick CurreyThe legacy of Nick Currey is as vibrant as ever due to the tremendous efforts of his family, friends and supporters of the Nick Currey Fund, who have raised more than $920,000 since Nick passed in 2005. Nick’s fighting spirit lives on through the Fund’s substantial support of the work of Dr. Mary Beckerle, the principal investigator of one of the projects funded by the CureSearch Acceleration Initiative. Dr. Beckerle and her team at Huntsman Cancer Institute are pursuing an innovative research project to develop a targeted drug for Ewing sarcoma.

“This is exactly the kind of project we hoped to underwrite when we established the Nick Currey Fund,” said Ralph Currey. “We strongly believe that the Huntsman team is closing in on a cure for the virulent cancer that stole Nick’s life, and want to continue to advance their research to the finish line.”

In 2014, the Curreys appealed to the Fund’s network of supporters after Ralph had the opportunity to visit Dr. Beckerle and her team, and witnessed first-hand the progress of their work and the enthusiasm they share for its advancement toward an improved treatment. As a result, the Fund successfully raised more than $81,000 dedicated to continuing this important work in the last year.

CureSearch is honored to be partners with the Nick Currey Fund in continuing Nick’s legacy and driving toward improved treatments for Ewing sarcoma. The progress of the Nick Currey Fund reflects just how strongly Nick remains present in our hearts and minds.
