Meet CureSearch Challenger Tom Zeug

Through the CureSearch Challenge, you will achieve your personal fitness goals or team up with your friends to accomplish a collective goal, all while helping end children’s cancer through a Personal or Team Challenge. Sign up to participate in a major endurance event OR create a challenge all your own.

Tom ZeugTom Zeug is looking forward to completing the New York City Half-Marathon on March 15. While he has no personal connection to children’s cancer, his wife is a former pediatric oncology nurse. “She would come home with stories of her patients and their parents, and it really touched me,” recalls the New Jersey resident. He learned of CureSearch Challenge because of its affiliation with the race. “I wanted to run and raise funds for a charity, so when I saw what CureSearch does and what their cause is, it seemed natural for me to sign up for the Challenge.”

Training for CureSearch Challenge is an important part of keeping active. Although Tom has a regular lifting routine, he prefers to have a goal in mind for cardio and running. At 46, he acknowledges that staying fit requires more effort now than when he was in his twenties, but he is hopeful that his efforts will put him in the best shape of his life. Of course, he also hopes to help end children’s cancer. “My hope is that any child who is now battling cancer will one day be able to run a half marathon in NYC in their mid-forties.”

Meet Ultimate Hiker and Coach Glenn Thompson

Ultimate Hike is a lifesaving, life-changing adventure during which participants trek 20-30 miles in one day to tell children’s cancer to Take A Hike. Learn More about Ultimate Hike today.

Glenn ThompsonAs a Boy Scout volunteer and Leave No Trace educator, Glenn Thompson is no stranger to the trail, and hiking is an important part of his fitness routine. “Hiking, backpacking and trail running are truly full-body workouts unlike what I get in the gym. The twisting, bending, climbing, and ‘no options’ cardio that hiking gives you, works the lower, core and upper body in a way that the gym just cannot duplicate. You have a commitment to finish once you set foot on that trail; it’s hard to cheat,” said Glenn.

When the Hoffman Estates, Il resident heard there was a new event training in Chicago, he knew the 30 mile Tecumseh Trail Ultimate Hike was right up his alley. When he first joined the program, Glenn was entirely focused on the challenge and achieving a competitive finish. After meeting families who had been personally affected by cancer at the Ultimate Hike Pasta Party, Glenn’s perspective changed drastically. “The Friday before my first Ultimate Hike, I did a total 180° and understood why I was really hiking. The following years, raising money came much easier. You see it is very hard to say no to reason, passion, and of course, the kids.”
