5 Tips for Eating Healthy While on Treatment for Children’s Cancer

Danielle Cook - Happily HungryDanielle Cook is a mom on a mission – she’s making it her goal to create delicious, healthy meals for children undergoing cancer treatment and recovery.

If you’re wondering why she’s doing this, here’s some background information: over ten years ago, Danielle’s son was diagnosed with cancer. As the parent of a child with cancer, you often feel helpless during treatment, but one thing that Danielle felt that she could control was what her son ate. She went back to school to get a Master’s in Holistic Nutrition, which helped her create great tasting and immune-building dishes for her son.

Using her firsthand experience and what she learned in school, Danielle now helps children and families affected by cancer to thrive and live longer, healthier lives. She does this through her Happily Hungry program and her book, Happily Hungry: Smart Recipes for Kids with Cancer.

Here are five tips she offers to help parents promote healthy eating and combat side effects during the child’s cancer journey:

  1. Make every bite count.
  2. Foods can be your medicine.
  3. Manage the “No Appetite” or “Huge Appetite.”
  4. Choose healthy food choices while on the go.
  5. Engage your support system.
