Bethesda, Md – June 3, 2015 – CureSearch for Children’s Cancer announced today the opening of the application window for the CureSearch Community Impact Award – Clinical Trials (CCIA-CT), co-funded by Gateway for Cancer ResearchSM. These awards will fund small initiatives (up to $20,000) with a focus on pilot or early phase (Phase Zero, I or II) clinical trial programs for pediatric cancers. Potential utilization of awards includes:

  • Initiating clinical studies
  • Providing bridging funds for ongoing studies
  • Providing research support for nurses, nurse practitioners, clinical fellows and associates involved in the clinical trial
  • Supporting equipment, travel, educational materials, clinic operations, etc. in the service of pediatric oncology clinical trials

The CCIA – CT awards opportunity is the result of a new partnership with CureSearch for Children’s Cancer and Gateway for Cancer Research (Gateway) and will support US-based hospitals enrolling patients in pilot or early-phase (Phase Zero, I, II) clinical trials within a single hospital or medical institution. The intention of these grants is to augment institutional efforts to administer clinical trials.

“It’s an ideal partnership for CureSearch and Gateway as both organizations acknowledge the importance of clinical trials and want to support the greatest chance for widespread impact for families whose child’s participation promises a better chance for survival,” said Laura Thrall, chief executive officer for CureSearch.

“Gateway and CureSearch are aligned in our quest to shape a world in which a cancer diagnosis is no longer feared. Through our work to fund innovative and breakthrough cancer clinical trials, we hope to find better options for children living with cancer – options that provide them with a better quality of life and future development,” said Teresa Hall Bartels, president of Gateway for Cancer Research.

The application window opens Wednesday, June 3 via Proposal Central (http://tinyurl.com/ProposalCentral), with Applications due August 3. Award notifications will be released in September 2015. Funding will be provided for a year beginning October 2015.
