(Naples Daily News) – Several years ago, Kyle Lograsso got a second chance in his life. Diagnosed with cancer in both eyes at the age of 2, Lograsso survived the loss of one eye and had successful treatment on the other.

Somewhere during his recovery, the toddler became a golfing prodigy, being featured on HBO’s “Real Sports”, playing with and meeting top PGA Tour pros such as Tiger Woods, and wearing John Daly’s colorful clothing line.

In 2007 when he was 5, Lograsso was the honoree for Greg Norman’s Franklin Templeton Shootout, which benefits childhood cancer research. Lograsso returned as a guest of the tournament in 2008 at Tiburon Golf Club at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort.

Lograsso supported fundraisers all over the country, and started his own, playing 108 holes plus one extra for kids with retinoblastoma in one day. But soon, his interest in golf waned.

“He just stopped playing,” said Jeff Lograsso, Kyle’s dad. “He didn’t have the passion.”

Now Lograsso is giving the game a second chance. After not playing for most of the past two years, Lograsso started practicing this summer and tried out for his high school golf team as an eighth-grader. The left-hander shot 84-85, made the team, and played in events that he was eligible for since he wasn’t in high school.
