Mother Honors Son with CureSearch Gold

The Dole FamilyOur son, Gage, was diagnosed with spinal Ewing sarcoma when he was just three years old. After a hard fight with cancer, Gage passed away on Valentine’s Day in 2011. I decided then to honor Gage’s life by doing all I could to stop this monster-children’s cancer.

We have donated to cancer research organizations over the years, but felt like the money disappeared into a black hole. I was drawn to CureSearch because of their transparency. CureSearch provides detailed descriptions of research projects and holds researchers accountable by requiring them to provide progress reports. Now, I can see how my donations are making a real impact to find cures.

Most importantly, CureSearch focuses on research that will specifically benefit children’s cancers with the potential to reach kids within three to five years. In the ten years since Gage was diagnosed, I see how research is changing the lives of young cancer victims, and this motivates me to keep fighting.

The CureSearch Gold program offers me the convenience and flexibility to continue the fight to find cures by creating my own fundraising events. We’ve started our own Walk event here in Portland but there are so many ways to get involved. Supporters have hosted a pancake breakfast, Wine & Cheese, shopping and exercise events, plus a fashion show. With a good creative imagination, the options are unlimited!

Until there are cures,
