CureSearch Walk Raises Money for Child Cancer Research

2016 Lubbock CureSearch Walk(fox34.com) – “To honor, to remember, to cure” was the motto of Saturday’s CureSearch Walk at Buddy Holly Park, where volunteers celebrated the lives of childhood cancer survivors and commemorated victims of the condition.

Volunteers at the event said pediatric cancer research typically only gets four percent of the total research funding available, and fundraisers that specifically target that sector of cancer research helps validate nurses’ and caregivers’ lives’ work.

“We get to see these kids when they first get diagnosed,” Southwest Cancer Center employee Lucy Marmolejo said, “and we get to see how we crush their world when we give them the diagnosis — that they have cancer. So, to see them out here with their hair grown back and to see them doing so well means everything to us, because that is why we do the job we do.”
