Hundreds Rally at Annual CureSearch Walk for Children’s Cancer

(nbc29.com) – Despite Saturday morning’s rainy weather, hundreds of central Virginians rallied at The Park at the University of Virginia to raise money for childhood cancer research at the 2016 CureSearch Walk.

Kelly Mason was there. Her son Preston hasn’t had an easy childhood.

“Preston was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was eight weeks old and he’s now six,” Mason said.

She’s one of many moms in central Virginia with a child who has fought cancer.

“It’s shocking to have an infant diagnosed with cancer but fortunately his treatment wasn’t nearly as hard as a lot of other children’s,” Mason said.

Mason says her family is one of the lucky ones. Now she participates in the annual CureSearch Walk.

“We walk to help raise funds and awareness for other children diagnosed with cancer so that they will have a better chance for a cure,” Mason said.
