I was introduced to the ugly world of childhood cancer when my cousin, Alisa Finley, was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 16. Over the next couple of years, I watched her fight and fight but always still smiling. I’d see her and her mom’s posts on Facebook about her battle and I was so inspired by her strength and determination. Unfortunately, Alisa gained her angel wings in September of 2014. The world lost a beautiful amazing girl! While watching her fight, I began following other childhood cancer stories on Facebook and knew I needed to do something, even if it was something small, to try to bring awareness and help these kids.
One way I found to do that was by fundraising and walking with CureSearch. I first formed Team Alisa in 2016 and throughout the years, Team Alisa has raised $3,778 and I really hope that we can push that to the $4,000 mark this year! I do it to honor my cousin and all the other amazing survivors, fighters, and angels and in hopes that we can help find a cure so others don’t have to go through what they have had to.
