Mattel Children’s Foundation creates special doll to help children cope with hair loss
Bethesda, MD – February 25, 2020 – Through a longstanding partnership with the Mattel Children’s Foundation, CureSearch for Children’s Cancer is proud to announce distribution of a new, special Barbie free of charge for children affected by cancer.
Reflecting the hair loss that many childhood cancer patients experience, the new doll offers interchangeable wigs and other head accessories. Accompanying messaging reflects an empowering theme of “brave and strong.”
“This doll was created with great care from the Barbie brand, with input from our hospital partners including UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital to ensure authenticity and sensitivity. We have been offering similar dolls to hospitals since 2013, showing our ongoing commitment to lighting up the lives of our fans wherever they are and to remind them they can be anything,” said Nancy Molenda, Mattel Children’s Foundation & Corporate Philanthropy.
“We’re proud to partner with the Mattel Children’s Foundation to provide this meaningful resource to our smallest cancer fighters,” said Tiffani Copeland, Vice President, Campaign Development & Communications for CureSearch. “This special Barbie doll will help kids cope with hair loss associated with cancer.”
CureSearch will distribute the doll, by request, to childhood cancer patients and their siblings. To request the special Barbie doll, visit curesearch.org/special-barbie
