Find a Clinical Trial

Explore options with your child’s care team.

CureSearch partners with Antidote to help families search for clinical trials. Use the finder to explore studies you can discuss with your child’s oncology team.

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a research study involving people. Cancer trials may test new treatments, new ways to use existing treatments, or approaches to reduce side effects and improve quality of life. They help researchers understand the effects of these approaches, including their benefits and risks.

Clinical trials may be an option when a child is first diagnosed or later in their care, depending on the diagnosis, treatment history, and study requirements.

Clinical trials have helped improve childhood cancer care. However, a treatment being studied may not work better than current treatments and may cause serious side effects.

Understanding your search results

Each trial has its own participation requirements, which may include a child’s age, diagnosis, previous treatments, and overall health. A search result does not confirm that your child can enroll. Share any trials of interest with your child’s oncology team; the study team must confirm eligibility and whether enrollment is available.

Questions to discuss include:

  • What is the study testing, and how does it compare with my child’s other treatment options?
  • What are the possible benefits, risks, and side effects?
  • What would participation involve, including visits, travel, and costs?

Participation is voluntary. Before you decide, the research team will explain what the trial involves and give your family the opportunity to ask questions.

If your search does not identify a study, ask your child’s oncology team whether other trials may be relevant.

Moving research toward better treatments

CureSearch funds research to develop more effective, less-toxic treatments for children with cancer, including early-phase clinical trials. Our support helps promising discoveries move from the laboratory into clinical testing.
