Our Mission

Our mission is to identify and fund the research with the greatest potential to lead to new and safer treatments for children with cancer.

Nearly 40 years

Our History

For nearly 40 years, CureSearch has evolved alongside childhood cancer research, continually asking what stands between promising science and better treatments for children, and how we can help close that gap.

  1. 1987

    It Started with Collaboration

The organization that would become CureSearch was founded in 1987 to support the Children’s Cancer Study Group, one of the nation’s major collaborative pediatric cancer research networks. From the beginning, our work centered on bringing resources and people together to advance research for children with cancer.

  2. 2000

Helping Build a National Research Network

In 2000, four major pediatric research groups united to form the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). Then known as the National Childhood Cancer Foundation, our organization became COG’s federal grantee, fiscal and administrative agent, and fundraising and advocacy organization, helping support a national system of pediatric cancer research and clinical trials.

  3. 2010–2012

    Becoming CureSearch

In 2012, we officially became CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, a name that expressed the purpose at the heart of our work: finding cures for children with cancer.

  4. 2012–2020

Closing the Gap Between Discovery and Treatment

CureSearch increasingly focused on a critical problem in childhood cancer research: promising discoveries were being made, but too many stalled before reaching clinical testing.

We developed a research strategy focused on helping promising science move out of the laboratory and toward treatments for children, combining rigorous scientific review with clear milestones and expertise in drug development.

Because great science isn’t enough if it never reaches a child.

  5. 2020–Today

    Accelerating the Path to Children

Our work has continued to evolve because moving a treatment forward takes more than funding research.

Today, CureSearch brings together researchers, industry leaders, regulators, patients, families and funders to help overcome the barriers that slow pediatric drug development. Our approach combines scientific review, milestone-driven funding, drug-development expertise and collaboration across sectors.

Nearly 40 years later, the question is still the same.

What will it take to get better treatments to children faster?

The science has changed. The barriers have changed. And CureSearch has changed with them. Our purpose hasn’t.
