Final Update
Dr. Kohler and his team have made significant progress in advancing CAR T cell therapy for AML by refining their approach to selectively target leukemic stem cells (LSCs).
They have developed a total of 18 new CAR molecules and demonstrated that several of these constructs effectively eliminate human AML in mouse models. Additionally, they have focused on understanding the key principles that govern the successful engineering of “AND” CAR T cells, which require two target molecules for activation, making them more precise and safer for clinical use. Future work will focus on conducting preclinical testing of several of their most promising “AND” CAR T cells. Through these efforts, Dr. Kohler is working towards translating these findings into clinical trials, with the ultimate goal of improving outcomes for children with AML who do not respond to conventional treatments.
